According to James Anderson's Hamilton Memoirs, George Hamilton is the second son of Sir David Hamilton of Cadzow and his wife Janet Keith. Historical and Genealogical Memoirs of the House of Hamilton, p. 45 Anderson suggests that George Hamilton is the ancestor of the Hamilton's of Boreland, from whom the Hamiltons of Bardanock and Blantyreferme are descended, but he does not identify a line of ancestry. Ibidem, p. 239 Peter Barns-Graham follows Anderson, adding that George was born by 1465. Stirnet: Hamilton 01 Sir Lewis Stewart, advocate during the reign of Charles I, identifies George Hamilton, fourth son of Sir David Hamilton of Cadzow and Janet Keith, as: "the Laird of Bordland." Historical and Genealogical Memoirs of the House of Hamilton, Reply p. 11
