The website of Our Royal Ancestors incorrectly identifies Andrew of Hamilton, here treated, as the first of Udston. Our Royal Ancestors The first laird of Udston was actually his grandson Patrick Hamilton of Udston Hamilton Memoirs, p. 389
John Anderson identified Andrew Hamilton's successor at Gallystone as his eldest son, Robert Hamilton. Hamilton Memoirs: 389-92 This is wrong. His successor at Gallystone was Sir John Hamilton of Bruntwood who took possession of this land before 10 January 1451. RMS:1424-1513: charter number 521
Andrew of Hamilton is reported to be the fourth son of Sir David of Hamilton lord of Cadzow, and his wife, Johanetta Keith. Sir David of Hamilton, lord of Cadyow, pp. 44-47 He had a charter from his mother on 11 December 1406, by which she conveyed to him the lands of Gallystone (Gavistoun) and others in the Barony of Kyle. Hamilton of Udston and Bruntwood, pp. 389-92
A date and place of death has not been identified for Andrew of Hamilton, here treated. However, he was succeeded at "Gallystone" before 10 January 1451 by Sir John Hamilton of Bruntwood and it is supposed that he probably died before this date. RMS:1424-1513: charter number 521
