About George Manuel

In 1881, George commenced business at the Yarrowyck Hotel after being at Yarrowyck Heads Station. In 1890, he was listed in the New England Roll as owning the property, "Beaconsfield", near John's, "Trida". He employed governesses, Misses Cotton and Mc Phee to teach his children.

George married his first wife, Mary Ann Townsend on the 27th April, 1881 at the Church of England, Uralla. Mary was born 27th April, 1862 in Armidale and died 4th September, 1903 at Uralla aged 41. She is buried in the Uralla Cemetery.

Margaret White was George's second wife who came from Barraba. Margaret died 5th January,1946 at Armidale and is buried in the Church of England Cemetery, Armidale.

George and his first wife, Mary Ann Townsend had 9 children, they are as follows:

After his second mariage he extended, "Beaconsfield" upwards, making it a massive two-story home. On their marriages, the sons were given properties - Francis, "Stonebrook", and Darcy and Arnold, "Tiabundi". When George retired to Armidale he sold"Beaconsfield to John's son, Leslie St Clair. His five daughters each received houses in Beardy St., Armidale on his death.
