About George Parker
George Parker came to New England in the spring of 1635 on the ship "Elizabeth and Ann", sailing from London. In the admirality office it is enterded that "he imbarqued in the Elizabeth and Ann, Roger Cooper (Mr. Master), that he brought certificate fromthe Minister and Justices of the Peace of ther comformitie to ye orders and discipline of the Church of England and yt. he is no subsidy man, May 1635.
He was 23 years old and was a skilled worker in wood. Soon after, he married Frances and settled at Portsmouth, RI, in 1638. In 1641 he was made a freeman, in 1643-44 he was sergeant of the court, in 1655 he was again made a free man. He was the first officer of the colony to die in office.
Of the appearance, religious belief, learning or characteristics of George Parker, nothing is known except that he was a church man in his earlier days and undooubtyedly became imbued with Puritancial sentiments before he died as most of the early settlers in Rhode Island were formerly connected with the congregations at Salem and Lynn. His widow, Francis, married Nicholas Brown of Portsmouth.
His widow then married Nicholas Brown.
