About George Worthen

Biography

George Wathen was born on 15: 10m: 1669 (15 December 1669) in Amesbury, Essex, (then) Massachusetts Bay Colony, the son of Ezekiel and Hannah (Martyn) Wathen.[1][2]

He married first, probably in Newbury about 1699, Anne Annis, the daughter of Charles/Curmac and Sarah (Chase) Annis.[3][4][2] Anne was named in her mother's will, dated 1718, proved 1726, as Ann Worthen.[5] She presumably died by 1732 when George remarried.[2]

He married, second, the widow Deborah Blasdell on 24 October 1732 at Newbury.[6][2] She was possibly the widow of Ephraim Blaisell who died in 1728, and the daughter of Christopher and Deborah (Weed) Bartlett, born in 1680 in Amesbury.[2][7]

In December 1708 he was listed as a husbandman among the "Snow-Shoe Men" of Amesbury, defenders against Indian attack.[8]

In 1711, George and Anne Warthen (by her mark) signed a 1709 deed of gift conveying entailed land to John Warthen, oldest son of Ezekiel2 and Hannah Wathen. In 1723 George Warthen, husbandman of Amesbury, sold to his brother Ezekiel land in Salisbury. In 1728 He sold to Ezekiel land in Amesbury, as well as a salt meadow lot in Salisbury to Joseph Moulton, blacksmith of Newbury. In 1738 he conveyed Amesbury land to his oldest son, Charles Wathen, and in 1741 more to his second son, George Wathen Jr.[9]

George was buried in Amesbury on 01 April 1745.[10]

Deborah died probably shortly before May 1754.[11] No probate records found for George or either wife in Essex County records.[2]
