THE WAY IT WAS-Gene Barber
Still More Odds 'n Ends From County's Past
George W. Roberts, originally from Lowndes County, Georgia, became an early citizen of Baker County. During the Civil War he moved to the Raulerson's Ferry (Baxter) section living at different times on each side of the St. Mary's River. He was elected as County Commissioner in November of 1863. For reasons known only to himself, he refused to serve and moved permanently into the Georgia Bend.
