About ‘Goody’ Elizabeth Conklin

http://www.lhconklin.com/bio/genealogy.htm

On January 24th, 1625, my ancestor, John Conckelyne married Elizabeth Allseabrook at St. Peter's Parish, Nottingham, England. Elizabeth’s parents are recorded as John Mylner and Winifred Ludlam, so perhaps Allseabrook was a married name and she was a widow when she married. Elizabeth died around, but probably before, 26 Mar 1671 at Southold, New York.

7 children of John Conklin and his wife Elizabeth:

  1. Isaac, born 1628 at Nuthall, Nottinghamshire, England, died 1635.
  2. Rebecca, born 1630 at St Peters Parish, Nottinghamshire, England, d April 09, 1670. Married Thomas Brush.
  3. John, b. 1631, Notts, Eng; d. April 06, 1694, Southold, Long Island, NY. Married Sarah Horton.
  4. Isaac, b & d 1636 at Nuthall.
  5. Timothy, b. by 1640, d. 1734, Huntington, Long Island, NY. Married Martha
  6. Jacob, bap 18 March 1649 at Salem, d, after 28 January 1706/7. Married Mary Youngs.
  7. Elizabeth, bap 18 March 1649 at Salem, d. 1697. Married Jonas Wood.

The parish register for St Peter in Nottingham does not contain an entry for the baptism of an Elizabeth Awcebrooke. It does have this entry, which is assumed to be her:

The daughter of John Awcebrooke was christened the last daie of November [1600] [1]
There are baptisms of two sons to John Awcebrooke but no other daughter. There is no burial of any daughter of John Awcebrooke.

Elizabeth Allseabrook married John Conkiln 24 January 1624/25 at St Peter in Nottingham. [1][2]

She died in 1671 in Huntington, New York.

Research Notes

This profile originally had Elizabeth as being the daughter of John Myler and Winifred Ludlum, baptised at St Peter, Nottingham on the 18 Sep 1608 [3]. The original parish register for St Peter in Nottingham has no such entry and the records of her parents have become confused, rolling two separate spouses for Winifred Ludlum into one person who never existed.

A baptism in 1608 implies a birth about 1608. That would make her aged about 15 when she married. Not impossible, but very much against the norm for the time.
