About Guy Marion Spurlock
Guy Marion was born the youngest of John William and Eliza Jane (Johnson) Spurlock's eight children. His birth came just before his family moved, due to his father's work on the railroad in Northern Colorado, to Larimer County.
They lived on a rented farm at first in Lyons Colorado then moved to the homestead in the foothills of Livermore, north of Fort Collins on the road to Laramie. The boys grew up farming, ranching and became "cowboys". They also picked up and played fiddle, banjo and guitars. They played for barn dances, weddings, and for fun.
Guy was fun loving and teased his sisters constantly. He and his brothers one Christmas played a joke on their sister, Ida that was talked about for many years. Guy came inside to tell Ida Santa had left a horse for her tied to the porch railing. She ran out to find a frayed rope at the rail and a pile of manure strategically placed. That was the start of the story of the "Horse that got away."
Later, the brothers moved to Oregon to raise their own families. They worked in the forests of the Pacific Northwest as wood cutters. Guy went to work on the railroad like his father.
He married and divorced Marie Ann Ehlers then in 1957, Ida May Dingman. He had two daughters, Lucille and Lela, and a son, Robert.
He died in Camas, Oregon in 2009 and is buried in Noah Cemetery with many of his family.
