About Hannah H. McCarty (H3b1b1)
Hannah Richardson was born a daughter of Quakers Elisabeth Bevan a Welshman and Joseph Richardson.of Bucks County PA .. She was about 18 when she married Darby McCarty a Scotch-Irish Presbyterian. Evidently Darby might have been indentured to her father to pay for his trip over from northern Ulster Ireland. She would have been disfellowshipped and shunned as was the Quaker custom for those marrying out of the Faith of the Friends.
Darby and Hannah registered their marraige in Philadelphia on July 4th 1736 the same day they registered the birth of their first son James. They removed to the wilderness of the Shenandoah Valley shortly after and raised the rest of their approximately 13 kids there. Hannah became a Presbyterian.
PS some now think that Hannah's parents might have been William Richardson and Elizabeth Coburn. Still it is VERY likely they were Quakers. so the story remains, only the Parents names might have changed.
