Private Michael Cline Sr served with North Carolina during the American Revolution.
Son of Johann Klein and Elizabeth Beiber, Michael was born on 16 November 1761 in Cabarrus County, North Carolina. He was granted pension for services in Revolutionary War.He died on 9 Jan 1840 in Lincoln (Catawba) County, North Carolina[169,171] and was buried in Old St. Paul's Church Cemetery, Newton, Catawba County, North Carolina.[1]
In August 1776, Michael receives first communion at age 14, from Rev. Arends, founder of St. John's Church, in Lincoln county (later Catawba County). Michael and his brother Jacob are witnesses to the will of their neighbor William Bost in April 1811. This will is probated in January 1823.[2]
Michael testified on 30 October 1832 that he had been born in 1761, in Cabarrus County, North Carolina [which was Mecklenburg County prior to 1792[3]] and that when he was called into service, he "was living in Burke County North Carolina which is now taken in Lincoln County and have been living there ever since".[4]
Michael was married to Fanny Killian on 27 June 1785 by the Reverend Godfred Arends, a Lutheran clergyman. On 3 March 1840, Fanny Cline, 75, filed for a widow's pension, stating that her husband had died on 9 January 1840 in Lincoln County. Michael's brother Jacob "gave a supporting affidavit", in which he named the minister "Godfrey Arend" and stated that Fanny's maiden name was Elizabeth Killian.[4]
Michael had at least 2 children: Michael S. Cline Jr. and Henry Cline Esq.[2]
