"H. A. Grimes, a well known retired farmer, died at his home on South Washington street, Saturday afternoon, February 18, aged 64 years. His death was caused by a stroke of apoplexy which he suffered on Friday evening. Mr. Grimes was a son of Peter and Maria Ridgway Grimes, deceased, and was born May 9, 1857, at the old Grimes homestead in Jackson township, near White Cottage, where he spent the greater part of his life. He followed farming and stock raising and was very successful. A few years ago he retired from active life and removed to Waynesburg where he had since resided. He was a member of the Methodist Protestant Church and took an active interest in affairs of the church and Sunday school. Mr. Grimes was united in marriage with Miss Martha Loar, who with the following children survives: Mrs. E. J. Johnston, of Claysville, Pa.; Mrs. R. S. Parshall, of Woodruff, Pa.; Mrs. Emory Harvey, of near Boston, Mass., and Mrs. Ray Strosnider, of Franklin township. He also leaves five brothers and one sister, William T. Grimes, of East Waynesburg; David P. Grimes, of Dighton, Kansas; James M. Grimes, of Mt. Vernon, N. Y.; George W. Grimes, of Woodruff, Mrs. O. P. Scott, of Harveys, R. D. 1, and A. L. Grimes, of Waynesburg. The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the First Methodist Protestant church, conducted by the Rev. F. C. Viele. Interment in Green Mount cemetery."
