About Heinrich I., Vogt von Westerburg und Hachenburg

Heinrich I., Vogt von Westerburg und Hachenburg

Who's Rorich 'The Little', Vogt von Hachenburg and Blankenburg's father?

(FROM: [1] Heinrich I, Vogt von Westerburg; [2] TO: (Step Father?) Hermann III, Graf von Virneburg pending the identity of 'Rorich'; [3] OR: Rorich von Blankenburg; [4] OR: Rorich's brother Christian von Blankenburg; and even another, [5] OR: Rorich von Utgenbach). [6] OR: Heinrich Herr zu von Sayn.

Dr. Thomas Bohn presents the question, is Heinrich the Son or 'Step-son' of Hermann III, von Virneburg because he cannot find any other sources (at that time) that would identify, who (Rorich) is and who is parents are.

Although there is another solution, having as much validity and that is (as heinous, as it sounds...), Ernst Heinrich II, von Virneburg is the same person as the Teutonic Knight, Heinrich von Ascheid-Hachenburg...? Well, maybe the Noble Lords 'von Blankenburg', along with the fact the Lords 'von Arscheid' both have a long-standing and very strong ties with the Order of Brethren of Teutonic Knights would substantiate the theory posed by Dr. Bohn- That of a Lord (Rorich or Christian), 'von Blankenburg' being Heinrich's father?

[1] Heinrich von Westerburg

The only connection that would prove Heinrich von Westerburg' to be the father, if he, himself, were a 'Weid-Neuenburg' or if the identity of his wife revealed she was of 'von Wied-Neuenburg of Sayn'. (NOTE (6-10-2013): It appears that Heinrich von Westerburg's mother is a Wied-Neuenburg- unless my original assumption is true about the identity of his wife. Could it be 'Rorich and Hedwig von Wied-Neuenburg' were in fact 'Heinrich von Westerburg's', wife's parents? If so, that would make more sense considering the Arscheid (Aerscheyt) family were Southern Brabants of the Aerschot lineage. For this to make sense, Heinrichs parents must be of Runkel-Aerschot lineage. This gives us a clue as to who his parents were... It's simple deductive reasoning at this point. Which 'Runkel' and 'Aerschot' lineage is avail that could possibly be his 'Heinrich von Westerburg's' parents?

According to, 'Annalen des Vereins für Nassauische Alterthumskunde und Geschichtisforschung, Volumes 26-28 by Dr. Cary Coolidge', Heinrich I, von Westerburg is Rorich's father even displaying the genealogy.

Dr. Coolidge dates Heinrich (I.) von Westerburg born around or after (circa) 1200 - (1220?), while the current dates are of his death is c 1288.

D1. Heinrich I von Westerburg, +k.a.Worringen 1288; m.before VII.1267 Agnes von Isenburg (+after 1319).

===== Considering, 'Heinrich I, Vogt von Hachenburg' died in the year 1286, that would mean his Grandfather outlived him. Even though it's likely, Heinrich von Arscheid (Vogt von Hachenburg) died early in life, it remains a mathematical improbability. It would be more believable that Heinrich would be 'Heinrich von Westerburg' as well.=====

Dr. Coolidge dates Heinrich II (III.?) von Arscheid (Vogt von Hachenburg) death around (circa) 1270 (1271?) and Wed (No proof yet that they formally married at all), Irmgard producing an 'Illegitimate' daughter Elisabeth von Arscheid (Canoness of St. Cacilia at Cologne).
Another issue with Dr. Coolidge's genealogy, is the fact that he lists 'Rorich, Vogt von Hackeneburg' as the father of 'Heinrich II (III.?) von Arscheid', when his mother is 'Heilwig von Schidderich' not 'Guda von Greiffenstein' (His Grandmother!).
No judgement against Dr. Coolidge (surely he wouldn't use the face of Academia to pose a lie...), he obviously, lacked the resources, to accurately tabulate the genealogy correctly and was, apparently, ignorant of that fact. Regardless, how he surmised his ideas, Dr Cary Coolidge was seriously misinformed and lacked all the facts.

'von Blankenburg' Genealogy

If we suppose that neither Christian of Blankenberg nor his brother Rorich of Blankenberg were the father Heinrich von Hachenburg and consider the fact (according to an archived record held by the Teutonic Order), that Heinrich von Arscheid, Vogt von Hachenburg died in 1286, something uncanny is revealed.

Notice in the Genealogy below that Dietrich I, Herr von Heinsburg und Blankenburg married to Johanna de Louvain have a child born who is reported to have died in 1287... More than a coincidence.

1241-1271). Schon sein Vater, Rorich Vogt von Hachenburg (Urkl. 1215-1237), stand lange in Sayner Diensten.

(Possible 'step' brother?) Brother that was the Edelherr Heinrich Ernst von Virneburg Ascheid, Vogt of Hechenburg of (Urkl. 1241-1271). His father, Rorich Vogt of Hachenburg (Urkl. 1215-1237), long-standing belonged in services.

Best Translation

He must have been a brother or stepbrother:

A (step?)brother of this Ernst von Virneburg was the noble man Heinrich von Ascheid, the steward von/of Hachenburg (documental 1241-1271).

(Parenthetical, '(stief-step?)' by the author- Dr. Thomas Bohn)

Already his father, Rorich Vogt von Hachenburg (documental 1215-1237), has been long in his/Sayner service.

- In the service of Mathilde von Sayn.

- 1083 says that Rorich's identity is not clear, and to look Gensicke (1987), page 200. It also says that when they changed their job, their byname/surname could have changed.

She was daughter of Count Lamtert von Wid-Neunburg and had no children. (D. after 1283).

TIMELINE

(The time period for these events reveal multiple Rorich's (maybe it appears, they are separate people rather than separate titles, by way of interpretation and transliteration) but, none-the-less, confirms that all possible were present- except for Heinrich von Westerburg)

Possible father's Rorich or his brother Christian, von Blankenburg

(Sayner- Under Oath of Mathilde Grafin von Sayn)

I think it was his identity has not yet been drawn to segregate belonged with the vassal Rorich von Blankenburg in view of the not so rare in amendment of the Amtsstellung Beinamenwechsels, belonged in the documents chronologically so that exactly match is only previously witnessed (No. 1, 5, 7, 15), some genealogical inconsistencies dissolve.

Possible father, Rorich von Utgenbach (Othenbach/Ottenbach)

JUSTIFIED NAME CHANGE

(FROM: [1] Heinrich I, Graf von Westerburg; [2] TO: (Step Father?) Hermann III, Graf von Virneburg pending the identity of 'Rorich'; [3] OR: Rorich von Blankenburg; [4] OR: Rorich's brother Christian von Blankenburg; and even another, [5] OR: Rorich von Utgenbach)

Well, maybe the Noble Lords 'von Blankenburg', along with the fact the Lords 'von Arscheid' both having a long standing and very strong ties with the Order of Brethren of Teutonic Knights would substantiate the theory posed by Dr. Bohn- That of a Lord (Rorich or Christian), 'von Blankenburg' being Heinrich's father?

Heinrich von Westerburg

The only connection 'von Westerburg' could be the father, would be if the identity of his wife revealed she was of 'von Wied-Neuenburg of Sayn'.

Even though, it's likely, Heinrich von Arscheid (Vogt von Hachenburg) died early in life, it remains a mathematical improbability.

If we suppose that neither Christian of Blankenberg nor his brother Rorich of Blankenberg were the father Heinrich von Hachenburg and consider the fact (according to archived record held by the Teutonic Order), that Heinrich von Arscheid, Vogt von Hachenburg died in 1286, something uncanny is revealed.
