Helen Weiand

Birth: Sep. 5, 1921 Death: Oct. 9, 2006

Helen went to play piano for a more "heavenly" audience. Born in Keuterville, Idaho to Casper and Clara Sprute. She was one of their 12 talented children. Helen worked on the family farm as a young woman.

She married William Weiand of North Dakota in 1944. When Bill finished his tour of duty in the US Army they moved to Yellowdog, Idaho where Bill worked for Hecla Mining Company and Helen was a homemaker. Helen was involved in the Wallace, Idaho area community and at St. Alphonsus Parish. Helen was a Cub Scout leader and a member of Catholic Daughters.

After Bill's retirement in 1981, they moved to Spokane, to be near their son and his family. Helen remained active in the Catholic Church at Our Lady of Fatima Parish serving with the Concern Group and Immaculate Heart Retreat House. She enjoyed her garden where her great grandchildren played. Helen and Bill were volunteers at the office of Weiand & Weiand DDS for several years. Bill passed away in Dec. 1998.

Preceding Helen in death was her husband of 54 years Bill Weiand; brothers, Walter Sprute, Louie Sprute, Ray Sprute, Rudolph Sprute, Virgil Sprute, Al Sprute, George Sprute; and sisters Nora (Sprute) Uptmor and Gertrude (Sprute) Forsman Flatt.

The family thanks Parkway Village Assisted Living and resident Joy and The Gardens Nursing Facility for Helen's most recent care. Rosary held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20, 2006, at Our Lady of Fatima Parish, 34th and South Perry, Spokane, Washington. Memorial Mass celebrated at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006, at Our Lady of Fatima Parish with reception immediately following at Manito Golf & Country Club, 5303 South Hatch Road, Spokane,Washington.
