About Marguerite Angelica Spengler

Marguerite (Marge) Angelica Sprute-Spengler, born March 30, 1924, to Casper and Clara A. (Dasenbrook) Sprute in Keuterville, passed away June 9, 2013. She graduated from St. Gertrude's Academy in 1942. Marge and C. Arthur (Art) Spengler married on June 1, 1943, and began their married life on a farm in the Fenn area. There they raised cattle and wheat. They had two sons, Charles and Richard. During this time, Marge participated in the University of Idaho extension "Fenn Domestic Group." On the farm, Marge grew a large garden, canning and preserving the crops and helped with the harvest by doing such jobs as driving the grain truck. Art and Marge sold the ranch and retired to Grangeville.

Marge had a great sense of humor and loved people. She volunteered many hours at the Grangeville Health and Rehab Hospital. Music was a large part of her life. She played her harmonica in the Hoot and Toot Band until it disbanded and continued to play for the residents at the Rehab Hospital. Marge loved her flowers and garden. She shared her flowers with her neighbors and brightened up the complex with the lovely blooms. Marge was good with crafts, such as creating greeting cards and painting flower pots. She was very talented in writing poems, creating several journals, which included spiritual, self-empowerment and uplifting writings.

As the years began to take their toll, Marge moved into the Grangeville Health Care Center. She continued to share her music, writings and humor. She played her harmonica often and for as long as she was able, and enjoyed helping the other residents.

Marge was preceded in death by her beloved husband, C. Arthur (Art) Spengler, and her 11 brothers and sisters. She is survived by the two sons, Charles of Grangeville and Richard (Patricia) of Boise; two grandsons, Brian of North Carolina and Kevin of Kuna, Idaho; two great-granddaughters, Enysa and Shayann; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marge cherished all her relatives, friends and caregivers that she had over all the years. Every visit, call or card gave her great pleasure. We want to thank all of you for giving her those moments.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Blackmer Funeral Home, 305 N. Mill St., Grangeville. Burial will follow at Denver Cemetery.
