"(I) Henry(1) Atkins came from England. He is first mentioned in Plymouth of age able to bear arms in August 1643.(c)

He married in Barnstable, July 9, 1647, Elizabeth Wells,(d) daughter of Isaac Wells of that town, but evidently continued to reside in Plymouth. He had removed to Eastham before May 12, 1655, when John Morton of Plymouth conveyed to him his dwelling house. In Eastham bought of Mr. John Mayo, Sr., sometime inhabitant of Eastham.(g)

His wife died March 17, 1561-2,(k) and he married(1) March 25, 1664, Bethiah Linnell (dau. of Robert Linnell), who was baptized in Barnstable Feb. 7, 1640-41.(m) Henry Atkins died in Eastham before August 21, 1700 (inventory), His will his property to his wife Bethiah.(n) She married Stephen Hopkins, Apr. 7, 1701,(o) and removed to Harwich, where she died March 25, 1726.(p)

  2. Samuel, b. Plymouth Feb. 24, 1681- 2;(r) killed In King Philip's War at Taunton in June, 1675.(s)
  3. Isaac, b. Eastham, June 14, 1657; (t) m. Mercy ; lived in Harwich.(u) Elizabeth Atkins, who m. Manoah Ellis, Nov. 22, 1710, and Samuel Atkins, who m. Ann Phillips Feb. 23, 1720-21, were his chiidren.(v)
  4. He also had a daughter Mercy, who mar. Eilis.(u)

  4. Joseph, b. Mch. 4, 1669-70; m.(z) Martha Pease, dau. of James Pease, of Edgartown; lived in the N. part of Eastham, now Wel!fleet. Their children are given In 8 Mf. 245.
  5. (2) Thomas, b. June 19, 1671.
  6. (3) John, b. Aug. 1, 1674; m. Mch. 5, 1699-1700, Elizabeth Newcomb, dau. of Lt. Andrew Newcomb of Edgar-town. (aa)
  7. Mercy, b. Nov. 24, 1676.
  8. (4) Samuel, b. Juno 25, 1679; m.(aa) April 8, 1703, Emblem Newcomb, dau. of Lt. Andrew Newcomb of Edgartown
