About Henry Brown
Henry Brown (1772-1809) held an appointment in the Madras Civil Service and died at Ramnad near Madras. Ellen Olive (1858) "Henry was very handsome. His children were adopted by his brother Benjamin and were brought up at Clapham, just opposite Holy Trinity Church. They were all of great beauty as is his eldest grandson Henry Darell-Brown"

BROWN, Henry. 1789 : Writer. 1790 : Assistant under the Secretary in the Public and Revenue Departments. 1792 : Acting Deputy Export Warehouse-keeper. 1793: Deputy Warehouse-keeper. 1794: Export Warehouse-keeper. 1796: Commercial Resident at the Presidency. 1801 : Commercial Resident at Ramnad. Died, 29th December 1808, at Madura.
Notes on the back of the portrait of Catherine Fanny Davidson say that Henry was the 4th son and 7th child of Thomas Brown of Tooting.
