About Henry Carey, II, MP

Family and Education 2nd s. of Henry Carey†, 1st Baron Hunsdon, by Anne, d. of Sir Thomas Morgan of Arkestone, Herefs.; bro. of Edmund, Sir George, John, Robert and William. ?unm.

Offices Held

Biography Carey accompanied his father to the north in 1568. In March 1570 his father was trying—unsuccessfully in the event—to obtain for him the hand of one of the daughters of Lord Conyers. Apart from his return to Parliament for two boroughs where his father had influence the only other reference found to him is in January 1572, when the Earl of Mar wrote to Hunsdon regretting that he had not arrived at Leith in time to see ‘your son Mr. Harry’, who had just returned to England.1

It is possible that he was the Mr Henry Carey to whom by July 1574 the Queen granted the fines to be paid by London recusants. Carey died at Berwick-upon-Tweed, administration being granted to his brother Sir George 22 June 1581.2
