About Henry Hay
Pioneer Pathways -- Rural Wetaskiwin published by Wetaskiwin Circle 8 Historical Society and Printed by Co-op Press Ltd. in 1981. Henry Hay Family Page 117 by Edward Hay
In 1913 Henry F. Hay left Germany with his wife, Minnie (Bohn) and three children, Hannah, Fred, and William. They went to Iowa where older brothers of Henry had preceded them. Shortly after, they came to Alberta where other brothers were located near Gwynne.
In the spring of 1914 Henry bought SW 14-45-23-W4 from Gus Gross, who had a lumber yard in Wetaskiwin, and the family moved into a little house there.
Soon they bought a house which stood on the quarter across the road from the Noah Krueger farm in the Angus Ridge District, and moved it to their newly acquired property.
Fourteen children were born to henry and Minnie Hay. Henry passed away in 1929 before the youngest, Martha was born. Minnie carried on with the farming with the aid of her family. In 1950 she bought SW-11-45-23-W4, across the road, from Alvin Nelles. She passed away suddenly in 1956
The family consists of Hannah (Logan) Trelevan, Frederic, William, Herbert, Katie (Paul), Annie (Herman), Lou, Henry, Betty (McBride), Richard and Raymond (twins), Albert and Edward (twins), and Martha (Perras). Fred, William and Herb are deceased.
