Henry Henderson Kee, Sr.

Henry Henderson1 Kee, born in April 1879, married first, Mamie Cheetham (daughter of Cefus Cheetham) on 24 April 1901. He was 29 years old on 14 December 1907 when he married second Flocy/ Flossie Peters who was 19 years old.
He was listed as a laborer in log woods in the 1910 census for Occoneechee Township with wife Flocy, son Giant L., daughter Harriet O. and daughter Isadora.
He is listed in the 1920 census as a farmer, owning his own land free of mortgage, able to read and write, with wife Flossie, son Gonzlo, daughter Harriet, daughter Isadora, son Square Boy, and daughters Viola, Lizzie, and Maggie. He died 25 May 1925 in Occoneechee township, Northampton County, North Carolina.

Flossie is listed in the 1930 census with a home valued at $800, son Square Boy (age 18), daughter Lizzie (age 12), daughter Maggie (age 10), son Henry H. (age 9), daughter Katherine (age 6), granddaughter Cora Mason (age 4) and grandson Bennie Mason (age 2-7/12).
In 1940 she was listed with daughter Catherine (age 17), grandson Arthur Davis, Jr., (age 9), granddaughter Irene Snow (age 5), and son Square boy (age 26).
Flossie died at the home of her eldest child Isadora in Seaboard on 24 September 1965. Her headstone in the family plot reads, "born May 8, 1892, died 10-24-1965."

Henry was the father of Giant L. (Gonzalo), born 8 January 1902, died 1 June 1938. He is listed in the 1930 census with wife Kattie (age 25), daughter Pattie (age 5), son Floyd (2) and brother George (age 16). He had a son Romie Louis Kee, born 22 September 1936 and William Mosely Kee, born 10 January 1939. His widow Narcissie Kee of Garysburg, informant for his death certificate, stated that he was the son of Henderson Kee and Mamie Cheetham and was buried in the Kee cemetery.

Harriet Onia (Sisone), born in Gumberry on 4 April 1904. She married Clister Gee (b. 11 August 1891, died 17 June 1970). They lived in Seaboard and Gumberry, North Carolina, until 1958 when they moved to Portsmouth, Virginia, following the move there of her daughter Louise and her husband James Porter Hughes in 1957. Harriet Onnie and Clister were the parents of Clister, Jr. (born 12 September 1921), Leo (Bud) (born 8 January 1924), Louise (born 21 July 1927), Bernice (born 9 August 1930, married Randolph Artis and died in 1989), James (born 24 September 1933 died in 1988), Bobby Jean (born 7 March 1937), Robert (born 24 September 1940), Susan (born 8 February 1943), Monnie Mae, and Vertie Mae (born 9 August 1947 and married Isaac Gadson). Harriet Onnie died on 29 August 2006.

Isadora, born 4 December 1909, married John Henry Mason about 1924. They had Cora Willie and Benny Edward. Isadora married, second, Roosevelt (Slice) German/ Jerman, 30 September 1934 in Greensville County, Virginia. He died 27 July 1974 and she died on 20 April 1985 at her home on Route 2, Seaboard.

Squire, born 26 September 1913, married Alice Long on 22 April 1933. They had one child George Square Kee, born in Occoneechee on 29 March 1940. He registered for the draft in Garysburg in 1940 and listed his wife Alice Roberta Kee. Squire (Square Boy) died 10 August 1950, reported as the son of Henry Henderson Kee and Flossie Tann.

Viola (Teddy), born 19 July 1915, married Abraham Davis in 1931. Abraham died in the early 1980s and their only child Arthur (Jack) died in the 1950s. Viola died 12 August 2001 in her house at 727 Madison Street in Brooklyn, New York.

Elizabeth, born 12 September 1917, married Richard (Buster) Snow about 1934. They had Irene Snow Owens (b

orn 15 September 1934), Richard (born 29 March 1942), Dennis (born 5 May 1944, died 26 February 1988 in Roanoke Rapids, Halifax County, North Carolina), Ronald (born 15 November 1945, died in the Vietnam War), Michael (born 19 April 1948 and died about 1978-9), and Sharon (born 1950).

Magdalene (Maggie), born 5 August 1919, married Alfred Simmons. They were listed in the 1940 census for Occoneechee Township in the household adjoining Flossie Kee, with daughter Olivia (age 4) and son James Rogers (age 2). Maggie was the mother of Olivia Simmons Haywood (born 4 November 1935), James Rogers (born 4 September 1937, died 18 June 1972), Willy (born 23 October 1940), Ernest Lee (born 22 January 1944), Mary Simmons (born 18 June 1942), Macarthur (born 26 October 1945), Nelson Bruce (Bayboose). Mary Magdalene died 18 December 1980.

Henry Henderson2, born 12 March 1921, married Alce May Vasser. He is listed in the 1940 census with wife Alce May (age 20). They had Henry Henderson3 (born 13 May 1940), Arthur, Robert Lee (born 21 August 1943), James Edward (Moosecat) (born 17 October 1945), Porche Mae (23 November 1949). Alce May died and Henry Henderson married Evelyn. They had Jonathan (Jay) (born Johnnie Mack Kee, 26 July 1951). Evelyn died on 12 or 13 February 1986 and Henry Henderson died 8 June 1993 when he was living on Route 301 in Pleasant Hill, reported as son of Henry Henderson Kee and Flossie Peterson.

Catherine, born 2 January 1923, originally listed as Laura Kee but changed to Catherine, reported as daughter of Henderson Kee and Flossie Peterson. She married William Phillips in Occoneechee on 18 March 1944. They moved to Brooklyn in 1945. They had three children Rita Dolores (born 2 October 1944 in Seaboard, N.C.), Heddy Elaine (born 18 January 1947), and Audrey Michelle (born 1 March 1961). Catherine died 31 May 1990 in Queens, N.Y.

His descendants sold his land in Northampton County, North Carolina, by deed recorded in Northampton County in July 1968. They were:
