Henry E. Williamson was born in 1826 at the Hermitage near Nashville, TN. His parents, Benjamin S. Williamson and Sarah Elizabeth Harris Williamson, were close friends and neighbors of the Andrew Jackson family and were their guests while their house was being built. It was during this time that Henry E. Williamson was born. He came to Holly Springs with his parents in 1836, when Indians were still there. He married Darthula Olivia Bradford, a native of Jackson, TN and daughter of Alexander B. Bradford, on October 4, 1855 at Christ Church in Holly Springs.
Williamson studied law, and was a partner of Judge Trotter. At the beginning of the hostilities between the States, he volunteered his services to the Confederate Army, and was elected Captain of Co. D., 17th Regiment Mississippi Volunteers, known as the "Rough and Readys" and commanded by Col. Featherston. During Reconstruction, Williamson took an active part in ridding North Mississippi of carpetbaggers and their allies. During this time he served as Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Democratic Party of Marshall County, MS. In 1880, he was chosen as Clerk of The House of Representatives of Mississippi and made a most efficient and valuable member. In the late 1880s, he was appointed by President Grover Cleveland as agent-in-charge of the Indian tribes of the Northwest. After his return, he served as mayor of Holly Springs. He and his wife had three children: Malvina ("Mal") wife of Harry C. Smith, Benjamin H. Williamson and Henry B. Williamson Sr. (Submitted by Brad Williamson)
