Herbert Ray Moffitt, of 325 N. 29th Street, Camp Hill, a former engineer in the State Department of Highways, died Sunday afternoon, March 15, 1964 following a lengthy illness.
The deceased was born in West Township, Huntingdon County, on May 27, 1885, the son of Samuel and Clara (Lindsay) Moffitt.
He was married to the former Irene Bottrell, who survives, along with one daughter, Miss Mary Irene Moffitt of Madison, Wisconsin, and two brothers, Dr. H. Fred Moffitt of Altoona, and Earle L. Moffitt of Dunedin, Florida.
He was a veteran of 32 years service with the state, retiring in 1941 when assistant chief engineer in charge of maintenance in the Department of Highways. Earlier he had been district engineer in eight of the state's regions and had supervised road construction in 45 counties.
A graduate of Pennsylvania State University in 1911, he had served as a first lieutenant in World War I.
Mr Moffitt was a member of Camp Hill Presbyterian Church, where he had been a trustee and elder. He also belonged to Masonic lodges in Altoona and Camp Hill and was a member of the Engineers Society and the Professional Engineers Society of Pennsylvania
Services were held from the Camp Hill Presbyterian Church this afternoon and interment was made in Camp Hill.
A cousin, Mrs. Madeline G. Hawn of Huntingdon, attended the funeral services.

MOFFITT-BOTTRELL
Mr. Herbert Ray Moffitt, son of Mrs. C. B. Moffitt of West 2824 Chestnut avenue, and Miss Emma Irene Bottrell, daughter of D. Bottrell of Perry Sound, Ontario, Canada, were united in marriage yesterday morning at 9 o'clock, the ceremony being performed at the Waldrook Presbyterian church in Baltimore, Md., by Rev. A. Brown Caldwell. Miss Kathleen Algar of Baltimore was bridesmaid while the bridegroom's attendant was Thomas Baker of Harrisburg. Following the ceremony a wedding breakfast was served and reception held at the home of the bridesmaid, Miss Algar, of 3338 Mounduwrain avenue, Baltimore. Mr. and Mrs. Moffitt late in the day departed for a wedding trip to Pinehurst, N.C. and upon their return will reside in Harrisburg where the bridegroom is engaged as a location engineer with the state highway department. His mother and brother Dr. H. F. Moffitt and the latter's wife attended the nuptials from this city.
