Honor Dorsey

Some have her as Honor Elder and there is an Honor Elder who married Michael Dorsey and this may be cause of the confusion; but according to recorded Dorsey history John Dorsey married Honor STAFFORD and is related to William Stafford. I think she is his daughter. Please see attached documents from the Hall of Records, Annapolis, MD!

Honor Sta....... is thought to have been the Honor Stafford who was left personalty in the will of Honor Marriarte, 25 Mar 1701. (Wills 11, f.21) Honor Marriarte was the mother of Rachel, who m 1) Benjamin Lawrence and 2) John Norwood, nephew of John Dorsey. Honor Marriarte and her husband Edward, were left personalty in the will of Richard Russel in Lower Norfolk Co, VA in 1667. It is also thought that Honor Sta....(Stafford) Dorsey was related to William Stafford who married Sarah Todd, widow of Thomas. Honor Dorsey was living in 1756 when she signed a deed of gift to her children. Since her name does not appear on later deeds, or in the will of her husband, it seems probable that she died soon after this date.

Names and dates of John and Honor Stafford Dorsey's children are from J. H. C. Watt's bible said to be the oldest Dorsey Bible in existence.

Honor Elder, daughter of John Elder, was born on 12 October 1689 in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.

She married Col. John Dorsey, 8 April 1708, at St Anne's Parish in Anne Arundel County. They had ten children: 1. Hannah Dorsey 2. Ruth Dorsey 3. Michael Dorsey, Sr. 4. Sarah Anne Dorsey 5. Jemima Dorsey 6. Susannah Dorsey 7. Patience Dorsey 8. Vachel Dorsey 9. Edward Dorsey 10. Nathan Dorsey

Honor Elder Dorsey died in 1756, aged 67, in Anne Arundel County and is assumed to be buried on the family's property at "First Discovery" (now part of Howard County, Maryland).
