About Idona Mae "Donna" Place

"Idona M. Gaylor September 5, 1926 - March 25, 2006 Idona Gaylor was born in Burns, WY and raised in the Catholic Church in Denver. She moved to Leadville in her teens where she worked in a store supplying food goods to the men in the U. S. Army stationed there. She met her husband, Morris and had two sons; Jeff and Bill. They precede her in death. She later divorced her husband. Idona moved to Grand Junction, worked at Mesa Drug and met her life companion, Carroll "Curly" Place, whom she cared for until his passing in 2001. In turn, Idona has been cared for by Bill and Lily Fitch and Jim and Ann Kearl and Nancy Richardson, her loving caregiver. Idona loved to cook, enjoyed canning foods and hand sewing when she was young. She loved and missed her boys so very much. Idona had a heart of gold with a tongue of fire and never had a problem voicing her opinion. By keeping up on all of the current events of the world, she kept her mind active until her illness overwhelmed her. She was a woman full of spunk with a strong love for the Lord. Idona loved the Lord even though she may have been impatient with Him for taking his time bringing her home. However, she had a great deal to do while home bound as she was a "Prayer Warrior." That was her job assignment on this earth. Sometimes her prayers for people around her and those for the government took so long that her meals would chill. She always talked about how much we all needed prayer. So Idona, now that your life is over, kiss the world good-bye, go in peace and walk on glory's side and fly to Jesus. . .fly to Jesus, fly to Jesus and Live. We will miss you. A funeral service will be held for Idona on Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Callahan-Edfast Mortuary Chapel with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery." (The Daily Sentinel, 28 March 2006).
