GEDCOM Note

Isaac's birth record must in some way be illegible from natural causes of some sort or another in the last digit of his year of birth for the reference from Wisconsin states they are in possession of Isaac's birth and marriage records from Massachusetts (listing this as "1707/08").

Speculation: an unlisted child who died young?
The tradition seems to be that four of his children died young or in infancy. One of my sources, Betty Bandel -- a native Vermonter who spent some time scouring the newspapers, court records and transactions, connections and local histories, etc. concerning Justin Morgan and his family -- writes on page 85 of her book delineating the circumstances of Justin's early life ". . . Grandfather Day made some provision for all the issue of both his daughter Thankfull and his son-in-law Isaac Morgan." One might possibly contend with the statement concerning "all the issue" of his daughter and son-in-law.
And I am sure that if some youngster or child was not mentioned still nothing is amiss and a normative conventionality would not be challenged (in any event). Bandel writes "From February of 1747, when Justin Morgan was born, until 21 March of 1761, when his grandfather Ebenezer Day made his will, there is no documentary evidence whatever regarding Justin. The grandfather's will reveals that Ebenezer Day remembered not only his [own] four sons and seven daughters but also all the children of his daughter Thankfull, wife of Isaac Morgan: out of his small estate the sum of three pounds seven shillings was to be divided equally among Isaac, Jr., Caleb, Stephen, William, Justin, and the two girls, Thankfull (already the wife of Thomas Miller) and Eunice. Of Isaac's and Thankfull's brood, the only names not mentioned are the first Isaac, born in 1734, and the three children who followed Justin -- Daniel, Hannah, and Nathaniel -- all four of whom died in infancy." (p. 84.) My point is that if our researcher found a lack of information about Justin between the years 1748 - 1761, then perhaps there are a few other facts about the family that are unknown or unclear for this time period also.
Justin Morgan and Martha Day had a daughter "Nancy" who was named after a sister who had died young before she was born and whose birth dates and personal history are often mistaken for her own in the extant records that I've found (they also had an "Emily" born after their first Emily died at age four). My speculation is that this possibly could also be the case for Justin's father Isaac in the form of a daughter. Details seem mysteriously unclear here; one finds that his son Isaac, Jr. dies on the same day as his father (which may be incorrect).
I recently came upon an ahnentafel of sufficient clarity, scope and detail that states that Isaac's son, Daniel, married a Joanna Brewster from CT. and produced a son, Andrew Morgan, from whom this source's ancestry derives. Daniel was born a year or so after Justin and if he did not die in infancy as his next two siblings -- Hannah, Nathaniel and then the earlier Isaac (II) b. 1734 . . . that's three -- who is the fourth child of the brood to succumb young? It could be Isaac's daughter Thankfull b. 19 Apr 1735, which date might be incorrect for his next daughter who was "already the wife of Thomas Miller" before Daniel was born. She may have been born earlier or actually later about 1736/37.
Isaac's wife, Mrs. Thankfull Morgan, died producing children at only 45 years. On the other hand, one might not find any need to underestimate her innate capacities for producing progeny, at the same time. Isaac and Thankfull's family may have merely got off to a slow start. (In my searching for dates and information on their family, I remember one file that gave an additional Thankful who died young and of making a mental note not to merge the two until a verification or a DOB. In any event, for now I have begun the process of going back through all my saved material so as to locate this reference! Hopefully a source will be listed.)
Grandfather Day outlived his daughter, Thankfull, by almost seven years and was approaching eighty when his son-in-law then remarried. He had at least a year or so to get to know Isaac's new wife, Ruth Alvord, if they had not been even earlier acquainted and if the subject came up, perhaps Ruth was quick to reassure Grandfather Day and obliged him not to worry about Daniel, Isaac's youngest son at that time, accepting him as her personal charge and responsibility as he was still "a child" and most likely was living with her now. And this is the reason he is unmentioned in Ebenezer's will perhaps; not because he had been "left out", but because this family matter had previously been decided or agreed upon. Grandpa provided for all the "inhabitants", so to speak, or working folk -- the full-grown teenagers in whose care, along with his step-mother, Daniel was in. Simple.
Ms. Bandel might be as much herself intimating her personal intuitions on this matter when she writes, "It may be that Ebenezer mentioned so carefully all the children of his daughter Thankfull because she, having borne eleven children between the first Isaac in 1734 and Nathaniel twenty-one years later in 1755, herself had died on the thirteenth of February in 1756 --"; conceivably indicating more than ten children with an unlisted Thankfull in all from Isaac to Nathaniel! ( p. 85, "Sing The Lord's Song In A Strange Land", Betty Bandel, 1981; emphasis added my underline)

 1. 1/2008: . . . Maybe not so simple. Just because Daniel is the only child of Isaac's brood who died young and lacks a date of decease might be just a red herring; found evidence that this is NOT the correct Daniel who married Joanna Brewster (cursory indications are that the husband of Joanna Brewster was born in 1 Oct 1744 or so); if Daniel is older than Justin, one wonders why he is not mentioned in Grandfather Day's Will. An additional daughter Thankfull is perhaps possible but then "the wife of Miller" Thankfull Morgan also had difficulty conceiving a daughter Thankful . . . .

Isaac, Sr. date of decease may require verification. It seems strange that father and son should die on the same day. Some say he died two days before his son and yet my further research gives a date of decease of November 7, 1796. The records may be in error here somehow.

 1. aft 2014: . . . It appears that possibly Isaac, Sr. took an additional wife with the same name as his first wife at the seasoned age of 84 -- after his second wife Ruth had died . . . (the widow or former Thankful Taylor Jones nểe Day)! Of course one might think this marriage could probably have belonged to his son. Isaac, Jr. . . . .
