HORSE DEALER IN HIS YOUNGER YEARS lived in a large house at Highworth with paddocks and yards he also had a house on the Swindon side of Highworth in 1912. Jabez gravestone had the traditional picture carved into its face of a youth holding the bridle of a rearing horse, symbol popular wit travellers

(book now out of print) Jabez Buckland(655) X Rebecca Pike known children include: Henry Buckland X Freedom Doe Henry was one of the eleven known children of Jabez Buckland (born at Sutton Courtney in 1833), and Jabez was a son of Timothy Turnit Buckland and his first wife Penelope Peenells Roberts; Penelope was born at East Hendred and christened at Harwell in 1810. Timothy Turnit was born in 1806 and died at High Wycombe in 1891; apparently, he was still virile when he should have been well past his prime, and produced another four children with his second wife, Emma, a daughter of Gabriel Bowers.

Yes Jabez was only married to Eliza for a short period. He married Alice on 14 Aug 1901 so I guess Eliza died after they had only been married a few years. On the 1891 census Jabez lived next door to Elijah Hicks and Mary Hicks (Mary later went on to marry Jabez' son Richard after Elijah died) - I wonder if Eliza was at some point married to a relative of Elija

When Jabez and Alice Clark widow and widower married in 1914 they exaggerated on their ages! Jabez said he was 60 and Alice said she was 40 (1854 J, 1874 A) On marriage certificate of which I have a copy, Alice says her Father Joseph Clark, dead.
