About Jacob Annis
JACOB ANNIS was born April 19, 1792 at New Hampshire; died April 21, 1879 at Mt. Morris, New York; married January 1, 1815, Sarah Burnham at Covington, New York. Sarah Burnham Annis was born July 11, 1798 in Massachusetts and was the daughter of Reuben and Sarah Burnham. She died June 2, 1864. Jacob was a veteran of the War of 1812, and enlisted under Captain Scott at Buffalo, New York. He served in Captain Henry Whiting's Company 23rd Regiment of U.S. Infantry. He was one of a number of soldiers who were captured by the British while attempting to cross into Canada in two boats. All of the others, except two, were killed, and Jacob was wounded, taken prisoner, and later released during a prisoner exchange. He received a pension for the remainder of his life for his military service. Jacob was a farmer by occupation at Covington and Pavillion, New York, and a member of the Methodist Church and the Republican Party.
