Will of Jacob Doran
Greenbrier County, (West) Virginia
written 2 May 1793
proved 24 September 1793
In the name of God Amen, being sick in body but of good and perfect mind and memory thanks be to almighty God and calling to remembrance the uncertain estate of this life and that all flesh must die when it shall please God to call. I do make and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form as follows: First being pertinent and sorry for all my sins most humbly desiring forgiveness for the same and command my soul unto almighty God my savior and redeemer in whom and whose merits I trust and believe to be saved and to inherit the kingdom of heaven and my body I commit to be decently buried at the discretion of my executors hereafter named and for the settling of my temporal estate of such goods and chattels as it hath pleased God to bestow upon me. I do order, give and dispose the same as if she stays in my family until she is of age. To James Young, on the same condition, one horse and saddle. Remainder of estate unto my loving wife Catharine Doran. Dated 2nd. Day of May 1793.

At a court held for Greenbrier County 24th day of September 1793. This last will and testament of Jacob Doran, deceased, was presented in court and on the motion of Catharine Doran and Robert Chambers, executor who made oath according to law.
Jacob Doran was one of the early settlers of Augusta County, VA. He married Catharine Shadow ca 1755 in Pennsylvania. He died in what is now Monroe County, West Virginia. Earlier versions of the family surname were Van Doran, Van Doren, VanDoorn, Doorn.

Jacob Doran (Van Doran) - 8th Virginia Militia, Revolutionary War Jacob Van Doran born in Holland of 1725. Jacob was a member of Captain James Trimble's Company of Augusta County. Jacob's father-in-law Ludwig Shadow(s) was a German and a sergeant at Braddock's Defeat. He died in what is now Monroe County, West Virginia. The Dorans were Dutch- earlier versions of the family surname were Van Doran, Van Doren, Van Doorn, Doorn.
Jacob most probably was born in Holland. He left Rotterdam in 1754, stopping in Plymouth, England before landing in the Port of Philadelphia on 22 Oct 1754.
