Father died in 1868 & mother died in 1869 - orphan children left Poland for America in 1872.

Martin Kukowski (15yrs), Jacob Kukowski (11yrs), Johann Kukowski (8yrs), Josephine Kukowski (5yrs) and August Kukowski (infant) arrived in New York aboard the ship "Columbus" from Bremen, Germany on 5 August, 1872.

KUKOWSKI-- Jacob Kukowski, aged forty-eight, passed away at his home, 176 Mankato avenue, early Thursday morning. A wife and five children survive. The funeral will be held Monday morning at 9 o'clock from St. Stanislaus church. Rev. Father Pacholski will have charge of the services. Interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery.

Death Certificate states: age as 48 years, 8 mos, 10 days, cause of death as "Cancer"; Occupation as "Laborer"; and parents as Albert Kukowski and Anna Kregar.

In the 1900 census Jacob is a watchman, Stella is listed as Anna. And the children through George are there. Jacob is listed as being born in July 1859, Stella/Anna as Feb 1871, He is 40 she is 29 and they have been married 14 years.
