DAR says wounded at Battle of Cowpens. He resided at and owned much land, as did his brothers, in Greater Alamance River area, also known as St. Asapath's District - to west of Graham, Orange County,(now Alamance County) NC. 1790 census lists him at St. Asaph's district, NC In 1804, he moved to Rutherford County, TN, and in 1807 to Franklin County. (In 1807, Franklin County was formed from parts of Warren and Bedford Counties.) Rich History, Vol. V, pages 319-364 has much on him. (Copied from TINKHAM notes). Jacob and Philipena had 12 children. Two of his children (brother and Sister) married Noe's (sister and brother). Philipena died sometime before 1810 -- Jacob married Rosannah Counts, with whom he had 6 children. The names of all 18 children are known. Jacob's will, dated July 4th 1832, left most of his estate to his wife Rosannah and their 6 children. His 12 children by a "former wife" were to get $125.00 each, the money to be paid by the sale of a Negro man named George. When Jacob died 14 Aug 1838, the 12 children by the "former wife" were not happy to learn of the provisions of the will. A suit was started 16 May, 1841 to break the will. Outcome unknown.
