About Jakob Langermann

The Hebrew inscription in his father's prayerbook lists his birth date as the 6th of Kisslev 5627.

He went to Johannesberg, South Africa. Although perhaps he was in Salisbury, Rhodesia first

The family story is that he lost all his money in a card game and shot himself. He is mentioned as dying in a hunting accident in a book about prominent Jews of Johannesburg. Family lore is that his son Frederick or children were taken in by his brother Max, also in South Africa but there is no record of any children of his and he was single and 30 at death. However his brother Max's death notice is signed by F.E.Langermann listed as nephew and adopted son present at death. Other records suggest that his brother Isador was Fred's father.

Also his estate was not small, when divided in five, he left each sibling 105 pounds which is about $18,000.00 USD in today's money. See sources here for a copy of his estate records
