James Armstrong MURRAY b. 29 Aug 1817 Dublin, Ireland and d. 31 Dec 1901
on his son's farm "Quaggasfontein", Colesberg, Cape Colony, m. first abt
1840 in the Cape to Mary Anne SMITH b. abt Apr 1822 Wynberg, Cape Town, d.
22 May 1842 at "Wonderheuvel" near Colesberg, Cape Colony (daughter of
James SMITH and Mary Ann ?THERON. No children from this marriage. This
James must have then moved to Port Elizabeth where he had a steam mill and
wool washery - he sold that in 1858 moving back to Coleberg as a merchant
where he met and married his 2nd wife Marian Susan HEATHCOTE on 27 Jan 1859
at the GILFILLAN's hme in Cradock, Cape Colony. Maria was b. 9 Sep 1829 in
Wales and d. 1 Sep 1902 in Naauwpoort at the home of W.P.H. ANDREW (a son
in law). They had 5 children. The HEATHCOTE, SOMERSET, MURRAY and
GILFILLAN, RAWSTORNE families have many complex inter-linkages
