Henry Co. Deed Book 3, p. 74. I promise to give up all my right and property of one sixth part of all my father, John Ramsey, dec'd, Estate in land and other property which was my part of the said estate. I do hereby acknowledge and give it up in the posession of my mother, Mary Ramsey, to dispose of as she thinks proper for value received of her as witness my hand and seal this 9th day of November, 1784 intersigned before assigned. FCVA Order Book 1800-1805, p. 161, Sept, 1802 James Bird, having raised a riot in the courtyard and being brought before the court for the same by the Sheriff, it is ordered that he give security for keeping the peace and for his good behavior for one year from this time. Whereupon the said James Bird and William Bozwell and William H. Shelton, his securities, came into court. (Note: Isham Hodges was also fined a reduced charge for the same offense. His securities were William Burwell and Samuel Cockran.

Beasley Note: Gabriel Choate is the son of Edward Choate, Jr. Not certain if James Byrd is the same as this James BIRD, but it seems likely, because, in Nov. of 1801, Edward Choat and James Bird delivered and prayed for defendant, William Logan (FCVA Order Book 1800-1805, p. 93). Charles Beasley was the son of James Beasley of Orange Co., VA. Also, in 1794, the Franklin Co. Court ordered that Josiah Woods, John Martin, James Bird and William Logan do view the nearest and best way from William Ryans to the road by the name of Martin's Road. Also, (FCVA Order Book 1793-1799 p. 54)...(FCVA Order Book April 1788, p. 224, Beasley v. Davis...456 ac lying on Owens Creek sold by the deft. to James Walker Nov 17, 1783, which wasnot proved nor recorded, be hereforth vested...)

Franklin County VA Court Order Bk 1806-1811 p. 71, October, 1806 Wm. Hawkins v. Brice Richardson .a commission is awarded the plaintiff to examine and take the deposition of Edward Webb of the State of Tennessee, to be executed by any two justices of the peace of the county and state wherein the said witness lives, on giving the defendant reasonable notice, and also to defendants to take the depos. of the Revd. Samuel King, giving the plaintiff like notice.

FCVA Deed Book 5, p. 529, Sept 18, 1808 James Bird to Robert Woods and Josiah Woods, whereas James Bird is indebted to Joel Shrewsbury & Company a sum of 29.8, by the sum of one dollar by the said Robert Woods and Josiah Woods to the said James Bird. One certain tract, 143 acres lying on the Waters of Chestnut Creek bounded, in Fishburn's line, Callaway's line. If James Bird should fail to pay said Shrewsberry the money due before May 17, 1809, then it shall be lawful for Robert Woods and Josiah Woods to advertise at the front door of the court house to proceed to sell to the highest bidder for ready money by way of public auction. If James Bird should fail to pay said Dickenson and Shrewsberry the money due to them before Feb 1 1811, then it shall be lawful for Joseph Hale and Tate, to advertise at the front door of the court house to proceed to sell at Franklin Courthouse to the highest bidder for ready money by way of public auction. FCVA Deed Book 6, p. 244, Dec 28, 1811 Be it known that I, James Bird, executed to Joseph Hale and Caleb Tate a deed of trust, the said Joseph Hale has departed this life, I hereby authorize and empower the said Caleb Tate to do all the duties and authorites they do were they living, hereby authorizing Caleb Tate to sell said land and fully convey the right of title to the purchaser in fee simple. Franklin Co. VA Order Book 1811-1817 p. 287. August 8, 1815. Shadrack Richards exec., agst James and Samuel Bird. Abego Hodges, the Sp. Bd, surrendered, the court being satisfied that the said James Bird has heretofore taken the oath of an insolvent debtor, he is therefore not committed to the custody of the sheriff.

Franklin Co. VA Deed Book 8, p. 2, March 4, 1816 Robert Inness, Robert Woods and Benj. Cook to Rivers Hodges, whereas R. Inness, R. Woods and B. Cook having been appointed commissioners by an order of the court of Bedford County to sell a tract of land in Franklin Co. on the waters of Chestnut Creek containing 130 ac, of which Major William Terry late of Bedford died siezed, the said order bearing date of Jan 1816, and the said tract of land having been bid off by the above named Rivers Hodges, ...and which lands is bounded by the same lines as described in a deed for said land from James Bird to the aforesaid William Terry. Note: This same tract was conveyed by Rivers Hodges and Nancy his wife to Ashford Hodges and Ann his wife Jan 5, 1818. It was bounded in Jake's line, Smith's line. (FCVA Deed Bk 8, p. 96)
