About James Blackeye

www.geni.com/media/proxy?media_id=6000000200987099827&size=medium
James was a Chippewa (Red Lake band) man

Biography
James was born in 1902 in Minnesota to parents Wain Je Mah Dub Iuayke and his wife As Sin E Wah Beak

James was admitted to the Canton Asylum for Insane Indians on February 23, 1920, at the age of 19, and diagnosed as epileptic with limited mentality. Within 9 months of his admission, he had suffered 313 recorded seizures. (Seizures can cause a sudden loss of consciousness, body stiffening, and shaking. They sometimes cause people to lose control of their bladder or to bite their tongue. They may last for several minutes. Tonic-clonic seizures also may start as focal seizures that then spread to involve most or all of the brain.)

He died on May 4, 1922, and was buried in the "Hiawatha" Asylum Cemetery tier 2 plot 53 according to the L.L. Culp letter dated February 17, 1934.

The June 1920 asylum male census erroneously lists him as Simon Blackeye (a younger brother). There is no evidence that Simon was ever a patient inmate at the Canton Asylum. James was NOT on the asylum 1922 male census confirming his death as before June 30, 1922.

His profile is part of the The Canton Asylum One Place Study.
