13 June 1574: Charter by which James Edmonstoun of Ballingtone confirms that he has given the 20 merk land of Buchquhoppill and the 6 merk land of Cessintullie alias Ballingtone in the Stewartry of Menteith to his daughter Marjorie Edmonstoun and her husband Archibald Edmonstoun, portioner of Spittaltoun. His charter follows from a contact of marriage dated 22 August 1573. The lands in question were to be held by Archibald and Marjorie in conjunct fee and liferent, and by their legitimate heirs in fee, whom failing by Marjorie's lawful heirs, whom failing by Archibald's heirs and assignees. James Edmonstoun of Ballingtone reserved his own liferent and the terce of his wife Barbare Muschat. This charter was confirmed under the Great Seal of Scotland on 3 February 1575-76.
