James was the son of John A. R. Gibbons and Fannie Roby.

He married Ann Shuttleworth on 17 Oct 1847 in Vineyard's Chapel, Bath, Somerset, England.

BLIND MAN DIES AT THE AGE OF 88 _____

 James Gibbons, one of the oldest residents of Ogden and one of the oldest members of the Mormon church, died last night at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. H. H. Hancock, 2620 Jackson avenue.  He was 88 years old. 

James Gibbons was born in Chively, Berkshire, England, January 27, 1825, and joined the Latter-day Saints in 1848, at Cowbridge, Wales. He came to Ogden in August, 1868, and resided here since that time. For the past 40 years he has been totally blind.
Two daughters, Mrs. Hancock of Ogden and Mrs. Heber Hocks of Preston, one son Joseph Gibbons of Logan and one brother Thomas Gibbons of Ogden survive him. There are 30 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Friday at 2 o'clock in the Fifth ward meeting house with Bishop H. C. Jacobs officiating. The body will lie in state at the home of Mrs. Hancock from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.
