BIOGRAPHY: James H. Wilson inherited a portion of father's land. After his mother died, he sold the land and moved to North Bend, OH in 1815. His son William married Elizabeth Kitchell and moved to Crawford Co, IL. James and the rest of his family moved to Crawford Co, in 1817 according to one source and in 1819 by another. He built a tavern in Palestine and was the proprietor by 1819. The first court held in Crawford Co, IL was held in James Wilson's tavern in Palestine. James H. was the first probate judge in Crawford Co, IL.

BIOGRAPHY: From, "History of Ritchie County," by Minnie Kendall Lowther, Wheeling News Lito. Co, Wheeling W.Va., 1911, pp 106-112: “JAMES WILSON, the eighth child of the original family in Virginia, 1783-1822, next claims attention, because JOHN WILSON, the progenitor of the Ritchie County family, is to follow out of regular order, as is COLONEL BEN, and the two named MOSES I AND II, died in infancy and youth. JAMES WILSON was married to Miss HARRIETT JIMISON, and they added five sons and three daughters to the already heavily laden family tree. They remained on part of the old homestead in Hardy County for a time after their marriage until the death of his parents, then in 1814, sold out their interests and went to Hamilton County, Ohio, and three years later to Crawford County, Illinois, where he rests. His family, WILLIAM, HARVEY, VASTINE, and ISAAC NEWTON WILSON, four of his sons lived and died in Illinois; PRESLEY died 1850, in California; and the daughters were, MRS. JAMES SPERRY, Utica, Ohio; MRS. GUY SMITH, Iowa; and MRS. J. D. SHEPHERD, Ohio."

BIOGRAPHY: "Biographical Sketch of Colonel Othaniel Looker" includes the Kitchell Genealogy and the Wilson Genealogy, Compiled in 1929 by Angelina Wilson Alexander Roy Wilson's "The William Wilson Sr. Family (1722-1851) "Footprints on the Sand of Time", Zanesville, OH, 1977, gives further information on the Wilson family. DEATH: Stone says, "Sacred to the memory of James Wilson, born July 25, 1763, died Aug. 13, 1822"

BURIAL: Buried in old portion of Palestine Cemetery. 19-20 rows from west end and about 10 stones from the north - washington monument style stone.
