About James Henry Lanier
A Patriot of the American Revolution for NORTH CAROLINA. DAR Ancestor # A069084
He was the first of his family to leave Virginia (in 1761) for North Carolina, where he acquired a great deal of land and became a highly respected Justice and active political leader. He was a member of the Committee of Safely, sitting at Martinsborough, Pitt County, NC, and Chairman of the Provincial Congress of 1775. An engraving of an oil portrait of James Lanier by Gilbert Stuart was given to F. Lanier Graham by his Aunt Mary Munds. Wayne D. Lanier
