Rites were held Sunday at 3 p.m. from Deep Branch Church for James Sampson, 78, who died Saturday at the home of a relative on the new Red Springs Road on Lumberton, R. 3. He had formerly lived on Lumberton, R. 4. Officiating at the rites were Rev. T. M. Swett, in charge, assisted by Rev. Zimmy Chavis and Rev. Roy Maynor.
- **NOTE: His birth date is given as Sep. 21, 1879 on his NC death certificate, but his birth year was closer to 1870 according the 1880 Federal Census. His death date was taken from his NC death certificate.
