About James Francis Walker, Jr
James Walker, Jr., was born in Madison County, Kentucky, on October 20, 1793. He married Abler Collett on April 25, 1816, in Wayne County, Kentucky, and they had five children. She died in 1831. He moved his family to New Year Creek in Washington County, Texas, in 1835. Walker later received 640 acres for service to the Republic of Texas from March 1 to May 30, 1836, and 1,280 acres for being in the battle of San Jacinto as a private in Col. Sidney Sherman's command. Walker died on March 24, 1873, and is buried at the Cobb family cemetery in McLennan County.

He married ABELAR/ABRILLA COLLETT 25 Mar 1816 in Wayne Co., KY. She died 27 Mar 1831 in KY.
James Walker, Jr. moved family to New Year Creek, Washington Co., Texas with his five children on April 1, 1835, after the death of his wife in Kentucky.
Their journey to Texas was on the Mississippi to New Orleans, where they obtained passage on a sailing vessel for Galveston. This ship wrecked in a storm; they secured passage on another and arrived at the home of his parents on New Year's Creek.
James and son William Collett served in the Texas Army. James fought in the Battle of San Jacinto. Received land grants for their services and they built the first brick home in McLennan County in 1851.
The Walker Home still stands in Waco, TX with Historical Marker.
