Served in the US Revolutionary War with his brother. John Miles, Jr. served along with his brother James in the Revolution under Colonel James McNeil from Columbia County, Georgia Both received certificates from Col. McNeil. The Militia Returns, 1754-1755, State Records of North Carolina by Clark, lists John Youngblood, Ensign, as a subaltern Officer, page 331-332.

Part of the Will written by James Youngblood states: "I say principally and first of all, I recommend my Soul unto the Hands of God that gave it and as for my body, I recommend it to the earth to be buried in a Christian like and decent manner ... nothing doubting but I shall be received the same again at the General Resurrection by the mighty power of God and as Touching and Concerning such worldly Estate as God hath blessed me with, I disose of in the manner following: ..."
