Jan de Witt

His father, Tjerck de Witt, was in Fort Orange in 1657, Esopus in 1660, and was threatened with punishment from Director Stuyvesant in July 1663. Jannetje was baptized in Wiltwyck on 12 Feb 1662, Claes was baptised in Wiltwyck on 17 Feb 1664, In 1665, the British renamed Wiltwyck to Kingston, Jan was baptised in Kingston on 14 Feb 1666, Gertruyd was baptised in Kingston on 15 Oct 1668, and Aefje was baptised in Kingston on 14 Jan 1684.

Jan De Witt made his will on 29 Oct 1700 being sick at the time. Wytjen remarried on 6 Sep 1702, Thus fair to place his death between Nov 1700 and Sep 1702. His will had to wait to be probated until his children reached their majority in 1715

"Van Lychaam kranck de Betten Leggende" (sick and lying in bed).—"Aan myn huysvrouw Wyntje De Witt (to wife W. de W.) one half of the estate, the other half to "myn vier kindere by Name (my four children by name) Barber De Wyt, Eycken De Wyt, Blandine De Wyt, Ragel De Wyt" of "buys Landt paerde Beeste Gelt" (land, horses, cattle, money).—"Eenigen van myn kinderen in haren Onmondige Jaren Mochte Come Te Sterve" (if any of my children should die during their minority) share of deceased shall be divided among the survivors. "Myn Broeder (my brother) Anderis De Witt & Cornells Swyf" ap- pointed executors.

Mr. Moses Du Puis and Mr. Cornells Switts appeared before the Court, April 12, 1715, proving the will.
