Biography

Widow Jane Brocklebank, from Yorkshire sailed from Hull, England in 1638 in the ship John, with a colony under the leadership of Reverend Ezekiel Rogers, accompanied by her sons Samuel born about 1628 and John born about 1630. She had a house and lot on Wethersfield Street, Rowley in 1643, denoting her to be of good estate. She was buried December 26, 1668. [1] [2]

The following are the names of the first settlers of the town or of such as had each a house lot as aforesaid alphabetically arranged with other notices: Jane Brockelbank , came from England with Mr. Roger's company; died 1668. [3]
1643: Survey of the towne of Rowley taken the tenth of the eleaventh Anno Dni 1643: Wetthersfield Streete: To Jane Brocklebank, one lott containinge two acrees, bounded on the west side by Matthew Boyes part of it lyinge on the north side of the streete and part of it on the south side. [3]
1667: Hog Island marshes were divided and laid out to many residents including: Widow Jane Brocklebank, Deacon Samuel Brocklebank. [3]
Immigration

John of London Sailed from Hull England to Salem, Massachusetts during the summer of 1638. On board were about twenty families, nearly all from Yorkshire, under the leadership of Rev. Rogers of Rowley, England, near Hull. The ship landed in Salem Harbor where they stayed the winter and spent the time looking for a more permanent location to settle... a tract of land between Ipswich and Newbury-- the settlement began in the spring of 1639.
