The S.S. Glasgow, James B. Thomson, commander, which sailed from New York on Saturday, 14 May 1859 [inst.], arrived in the Clyde on Saturday, 28 May 1859, with a full cargo of merchandise and 146 passengers. She came by the North Channel; experienced for the first ten days out strong easterly winds. Passed the S.S. Adelaide, from Galway, going up New York Bay. On Monday, 16 May 1859 [inst.], in lat. 40° 44', long. 67° 00' [S.S. Glasgow 16 May 1859, North Atlantic Ocean 40.73, -67.00], passed the United States Mail steamship Arago, from Southampton to New York. The time of the passage was 14 days 2½ hours.

The S.S. Glasgow.
After a safe and prosperous voyage from New York to Glasgow, and being about to separate, a meeting was held by the undersigned, first cabin passengers, on board the steamship Glasgow, on Saturday, 28 May 1859.
On motion, the Rev. Dr. Smith was called to the chair, and James Riordan, Esq., was appointed secretary.
The object of the meeting having been stated by the chairman, a committee, consisting of D. H. Mortley, Edward R. Robinson, and James Riordan, was appointed to report resolutions for the consideration of the meeting, when the following resolutions were offered by D. H. Mortley, and unanimously adopted, viz: —
Resolved, — That the thanks of this meeting are due, and are hereby tendered, to Captain James B. Thomson of the steamship Glasgow, for his uniform kindness, gentlemanly deportment, and anxious solicitude for our safety and comfort during the present voyage.
Resolved, — That we recognise in Captain Thomson a careful, faithful, and able commander, and one eminently qualified for the responsible position he occupies, and we would earnestly recommend to the travelling community Captain Thomson and the steamship Glasgow.
Resolved, — That our thanks are hereby tendered to the officers and attachés, individually and collectively, for their kindness and civility, and we take great pleasure in testifying to the fact that we have been highly gratified in witnessing the great order and decorums manifested in the discharge of their various duties. ...
