The Governors of this Charity beg to intimate that a Schoolmistress will be elected to the Institution in the month of July next. The Branches of Education which she will be required to teach are Needle Work, Knitting, and making Children's Clothes. The Salary is £50 a year, besides a commodious dwelling house, rent and tax free. The Candidates will be required to appear personally, with a view to comparative trial, in terms of the foundation of the Charity, in the Hall of the Institution, at a time previous to the election, of which notice will be sent to such of the applicants as shall have produced satisfactory certificates.

Candidates for the situation must be in Communion with the Established Church of Scotland; and none need apply who cannot produce the most unexceptionable references as to moral character and qualifications for the respective duties, which they will be required to enter upon on Friday, 1 August 1845 [next].

Applications, with testimonials, to be lodged with Messrs. Hill, Davidson, Hill & Clark, South Frederick Street, Glasgow, on or before Saturday, 28 June 1845 [next]. By order of the Governors, James H. Hill, Clerk. Glasgow, Wednesday, 23 April 1845.

In that year (Monday, 30 November 1789), Messrs. Orr and Wilson, the Town-Clerks, having resigned office, the Patrons elected James Hill, Senior, who had acted as their Factor on the Gorbals lands since 1758, and James Hill, Junior, his son, jointly to be Clerks to the Hospital. On the decease of the latter the Patrons [Footnote: Thursday, 12 August 1819] elected Mr. Laurence Hill, grandson of Mr. Hill of Busby, to the office. This appointment he held till his death in 1872, in conjunction, for some time, with his son James Hopkirk Hill, elected on Friday, 19 December 1845, and subsequently with other Members of the firm of Hill, Davidson, and Hoggan, by whom the office is presently held.
