Janet Fletcher was the fourth of six children (four sons & two daughters) Their family moved to the new Colony of Victoria on 17th June, 1852 from Liverpool Scotland on the 'Europa', a clipper of 1,088 tons. The 'Europa' arrived at the Port of Melbourne on 15th September of 1852 according to Archives records in the State Library, Melbourne, however the family believe the voyage took six months as the clipper was caught in the Doldrums awaiting the Trade Winds.
