28 August 1543: Ante-nuptial Marriage Contract between Alexander, Lord Lewinstoun, and Agnes Lewinstoun, his daughter, on the one part and Thomas Symmervell of Playne, Margaret Levinstoun, his spouse, and Thomas Symmerwell, his son, on the other, by which the said Thomas, younger, and failing him, John, his brother, and failing him James, his brother, contracted to marry the said Agnes, and failing her, Janet, her sister, and failing her, Helen, her sister, having, in conjunct fee, the 10 merk land in the west end of Plane, and £10 lands in the lands of Playne, and the said Alexander binding himself to pay the sum of 500 merks for the expenses of redeeming the said lands. Janet Livingston is the daughter of Alexander Livingston, 5th Lord Livingston.1 She married Sir Alexander Bruce of Airth, son of Robert Bruce of Airth and Janet Forrester.1

Janet Maitland (née Livingston), born in 1535 in Callendar, Stirling, Stirlingshire, Scotland, passed away on August 14, 1599, in Airth Stirling, West Lothian, Scotland. Her parents were Alexander Livingston and Anne Agnes Douglas, Lady of Morton, Fair Maid Galloway. She had a brother named William Livingstone. Janet was married to Alexander Bruce and later to Robert Maitland. Her children were Janet Sharp (born Maitland), William Bruce, and James Bruce.

Marriage to Sir Robert Maitland occurred in 1550 in Clackmannan, Clackmannanshire, Scotland.
