Jarrett Washington Hawkins was the 5th child and 5th son out of 6 sons and 1 daughter of John Daniel & Frances "Fannie" Huggins Hawkins.

Jarrett was married twice.

His 1st wife, whom he married in 1871, was Sarilda Elizabeth Price, the daughter of Caleb S. & Rosina Barbe Price, and they together had 3 sons and 1 daughter. Sarilda died sometime before 1887. The children of Jarrett and his first wife are as follows: Rosa V. Hawkins (1872), Charles Hall Hawkins (1874), Edwin Eastman Hawkins (1876), and Herman Monroe Hawkins (1879).

Jarrett's 2nd wife, whom he married in April of 1887, was Laverna Delphia Grubb, the daughter of Benjamin F. & Sarah Jane (nee unknown) Grubb. Laverna gave Jarrett 5 sons & 5 daughters as follows: Orville Hawkins (1888), Ross C. Hawkins (Abt 1892), Stella C. Hawkins (Abt 1894), Goldie P. Hawkins (Abt 1896), John F. Hawkins (Abt 1899), Cora M. Hawkins (Abt 1900), Della Mabel [aka Mabel D.] Hawkins Stevens (1902-1964), Lester D. Hawkins (Abt 1904), Claude R. Hawkins (Abt 1906), Leola Agnes Hawkins (Abt 1908).

Between Jarrett's two wives, he was blessed with 14 children.
