Jasper von Kleist (1961 - 2018)

Brief overview:

Jasper (61), a farm foreman, was shot dead on the 21st of March 2018 on the farm Dale near Ellisras. His, girlfriend Sonja Joubert (55) sustained a gunshot wound to her arm.

Three men were arrested, but escaped police custody.

The three attackers were re-arrested and found guilty and sentenced in the Polokwane High Court in early August 2022 - Constantino Masivhe, Innocent Khumalo and Benjamin Jambani.

All three were sentenced to life in prison for murder, as well as eight years for conspiracy to murder, 20 years for attempted murder (four charges) and 15 years for aggravated robbery.

Khumalo was sentenced to a further five years for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and three years for the illegal possession of ammunition.

Jambani was also found guilty on three charges of possessing an unlicensed firearm and sentenced to 15 years in prison for this. He was sentenced to nine years in prison for illegal possession of ammunition (three counts).

The defendants' sentences are expected to be served concurrently.
