Jean DIT RICHELIEU LEGER was born[7] Bapt. 11/20/1694 in St. Michel's Church In Fontevraud, France. He died[7] in See Notes On Death For Dates. Jean married Marguerite MARCHAND. DEATH: He died between Febuary 26,1759 and July 16,1770 in Quebec, Canada first date was the date that his daughter Marie Louise was married and the second date was the marriage of his son jean louis and he, the father is listed as being the late jean leger meaning he was already deceased.
Notes: Their marraige contract was notarized by Francois Regeot on December 10,1726. The next day they were married at Notre Dame des Victoires Church in Quebec, Canada. The witnesses to the marraige were:Mr. Francois Teshe, Mr. Jacques Chatelier, and Mr. Miche Levasseur. Fahter Plante perfomed the ceremony. In 1736, Jean was known as the "Gardien au magasin du roi a Quebec" (Guardien of the King's Warehouse in Quebec)
the earliest record found which indicates that Jean Leger Sr. Started using the dit Richelieu was on the burial record of his son, jean joseph on July 15,1735
According tot he 1744 Census of Quebec, Jean and is family lived on Rue St. Roch. They were listed as: Jean Richelieu, 50 years old, marguerite, his wife, 48 years old (should be 43),children: Michel, 15 years,marguerite 12 years, Marie Mageleine 7 years, and Jean-Louis at age 5 years old. for some reason the oldest daughter marie Louise is not listed on the census.

GREAT INFO TO PLUG INTO LEGER TREE: Jean Leger dit Richelieu, son of Francois Leger and Anne Guingande, of Fronvaux/Fontevrault, doises of Poitiers, Poitou, France, married Marguerite Marchand 11 Dec 1726 at Notre Dame of Quebec, Canada. She was the daughter of Jacques Marchand and Marguerite Gaydreau. They had the following children: 1)- Francois Leger, born 29 Oct 1727, Quebec. Died 25 Dec 1727 at Quebec and was buried at the Notre Dame Cemetery Quebec on 26 Dec 1727. 2)- Michel Leger dit Richelieu, born 28 Mar 1729 at Quebec and baptized 28 Mar 1729 at the Notre Dame Church of Quebec. His godparents were Michel Aubois and Marguerite Veronne. Baptized by Father Chardon. He married Angelique Pinet, about 1759/60, daughter of Charles Pinet and Marie Marchand of Grand-Pre, Acadia. He died sometimes between 1773 and 1785 at La Rochelle, France. 3)- Marie-Louise Leger, born 22 Apr 1730 at Quebec. She married Raymond Montaigne, son of Bernard Montaigne and Perrette Jolliere of France, 26 Feb 1759 at the Church of Notre Dame of Quebec. 4)- Marguerite Leger, born 6 Apr 1732 at Quebec. She married Jean-Charles Breton, son of Nicolas Breton and Catherine Troyer of France, 16 Nov 1750 at the Church of Notre Dame of Quebec. 5)- Jean-Joseph Leger dit Legere, born 27 Jan 1735 at Quebec. He died 14 Jul 1735 and was buried 15 Jul 1735 in the Cemetery of Notre Dame at Quebec. 6)- Genevieve Leger dit Legere, born 28 Feb 1736 at Quebec. She died 17 Jul 1736 and was buried 18 Jul 1736 at the Cemetery of Notre Dame at Quebec. 7). Marie-Madeleine Leger dit Legere, born 19 May 1738 at Quebec. No other info. 8)- Jean-Louis Leger dit Richelieu, born Jan 1740 at Quebec. His first wife was Marie-Catherine Degenais. Married in the Notre Dame Church of Montreal, Quebec 16 Jul 1770. His second wife was Angelique Serres-St-Jean, married in the Notre Dame Church of Montreal 24 Apr 1797. His third wife was Marguerite Boutonne-Larochelle, married in the Notre Dame Church of Montreal 20 Sep 1819. He died 5 Dec 1835 at Montreal and was buried 9 Dec 1835 in the Notre Dame Cemetery at Montreal. 9)- Anoyme Leger, born 5 Mar 1742 at Quebec. She died 5 Mar 1742 and buried the same day at the Notre Dame Cemetery of Quebec. 10)- Yves Leger, born 14 Nov 1743 at Quebec. He died 2 Dec 1743 at Quebec. 11)- Angelique Leger, born 14 Oct 1746 at Quebec. She died 18 Jun 1747 and was buried 19 Jun 1747 at the Notre Dame Cemetery at Quebec.
