Jeremiah was born on February 20, 1766 in South Brimfield, Massachusetts. He immigrated to Pittsford, Vermont at age 26 (1792/1794) and lived there until he was over 40 years old. He came there with his cousin Abner Needham.
Jeremiah married Ruth Cooley, aged 14, daughter of Colonel Benjamin and Ruth (Beach) Cooley, grandaughter of Benjamin and Mary (Needham) Cooley.
They moved to Essex County, New York and lived there for about 10 years and then moved back to Vermont.

Jeremiah was born in South Brimfield, Massachusetts (now Wales). He immigrated to Pittsford, Vermont at age 26 (1792/1794) and lived there until he was over 40 years old. He came there with his cousin, Abner Needham.
At age 25 Jeremiah married Ruth Cooley, age 14, daughter of Colonel Benjamin and Ruth (Beach) Cooley, grandaughter of Benjamin and Mary (Needham) Cooley. She was Jeremiah's 1st cousin's daughter.
They moved to Essex County, New York and lived there for about 10 years and then moved back to Vermont.
He died at age 80 years 8 months and 10 days.
The most of his time was devoted to farming, though he occasionally worked at shoemaking, a trade he learned in his younger days. He was a very good penman, and some specimens of his writings may be seen upon the town records, he having been employed by Col. Cooley to do a part of his writing while he held the clerkship.
